The FMP designation is for entry-level and transitioning facility professionals who do not yet have the hands-on experience required for obtaining the CFM. The FMP credential prepares new and transitioning facility professionals for the demands of today’s dynamic workplace.  A knowledge-based credential, the Facility Management Professional (FMP) is designed to accelerate an FM’s transition into the profession.

Why should you get an FMP?

  • The course curriculum required to achieve IFMA’s FMP credential will prepare you for the unique challenges of the profession, focusing on competencies essential to an FM’s day-to-day responsibilities.
  • A commitment to continuing education and professional development ensures an up-to-date skill set throughout your career.
  • FMPs who maintain their professional growth have a greater chance of successfully completing the CFM Exam and joining the elite circle of Certified Facility Managers.
  • Whether you are applying for a position or promotion in the field, or if you plan to do business with a FM, having the letters “FMP” after your name demonstrates your professional knowledge.

Who should apply for an FMP?

  • Facility management practitioners with less than five years of experience.
  • Transitioning professionals with significant experience in related careers.
  • Partner practitioners such as architects, designers and safety engineers.
  • Facility managers must be proficient in a wide range of competencies and the CFM designation shows the level and skill you have achieved.

Award of the FMP Credential

The FMP credential is awarded by the International Facility Management Association.  Upon completion of the FMP series of classes, participants will need to apply to IFMA to complete the certification process (www.ifma.org).  Participants meeting the requirements of the NIU program (attendance and exams) will be awarded a certificate of completion at the conclusion of each course.  These certificates are documentation that you have successfully completed each course required to be awarded the FMP credential.

The Program – Just Two Simple Steps

Step One - Complete the required courses.  The FMP requires the completion of NIU’s four approved IFMA courses, designed to provide attendees with critical skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in facility management.  These competency areas are essential to anyone working as or with a facility manger.  All four courses are offered at NIU Naperville this Spring.  See chart below for course detail.

Step Two - Submit your application with IFMA.  Download the online application form at www. ifma.org.
